Preston Train Station

Picture with thanks to Paul Heyes

Look out for the Tommy at Preston train station to honour those from Lancashire who gave their lives during the First World War.

Preston is a major station on the West Coast mainline and as such millions of servicemen passed through Preston station, often on long journeys during the First World War. A group of local women set up a buffet there and served 3.5 million servicemen passing through.

You can also visit the plaque in the waiting room, the site where the meals were served, to celebrate the women who supported the troops heading through the station.
